A message from Karen and Stan:
Join us for collaboration in clay! Stan and I look forward to spending a couple days making and decorating functional pottery. We will explore making smaller vessels, creating palettes on the pots that you can alter, decorate with slip, carve, or maybe all of the above. Oh, and let's not forget attachments! Everybody loves handles, doodads, and whatchamacollits. The possibilities are unlimited.
My name is Karen and my passion for pottery began 20 years ago and has only grown through the years. I love creating functional and nonfunctional pottery. Through my journey I have found that slip makes me happy; especially, porcelain slip!
I love the contrast and dimension it adds to any vessel. Looking for my voice and what makes me unique in pottery has been a challenge. For years I stole like an artist, taking other people's techniques and styles and applying it to my own work; however, at some point, I started decorating in a way that shows my personality and my love for all things in nature.
I look forward to presenting this workshop with my colleague Stan of SSS (Stan Simmons Studios) in Fayetteville, NC. Stan has been doing pottery since his high school days. He is a functional potter but contrasts my love of decorating with slip with his own love of clan, fresh vessels that are accented and unique through his glazing techniques. Collaborating together, we will send you home with new and exciting tips and tricks to improve your creating and help you find YOUR voice in your work.
